Leaders, do you remember how challenging it was for you as a first time leader?

Girl Scout of Western Ohio is implementing a program at the SU level to help new leaders with training, membership support, program support and administrative support, and WE NEED YOUR HELP.  We need volunteers for a short term service unit position.  New volunteer mentors will be provided with the "Girl Scout Troop Start-Up Guide".  This resource is full of all the information a new troop leader needs to get started.  It contains a checklist for all the steps for becoming a volunteer from completing the volunteer application, to connecting with the service unit.  In this resource, you'll also find information about how to get organized, gaining parent/guardian support, sample meeting outlines, managing troop finances, service unit support available to leaders, and a copy of useful forms that troop leaders use often.

If you are interested in becoming a new leader mentor, you'll need to attend the SU New Leader Orientation (in November) to meet the new leader you'll be supporting and be willing to exchange contact information with the new leader.  The new leader may call upon to help with questions that arise during the first year.  We will match mentors with one or two new leaders depending on the number of mentor volunteers and number of new leaders.  We'll try to match new leaders with mentors at the same school if possible.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Tracy Hiles.

The Girl Scout Brand has changed!  You'll notice different icons on the Girl Scout of Western Ohio Website and other communications sent to you.  Make a right click on any of the new icons, and save the picture for you to use with your communications with your parents, girls, and community.  If you have any troubles saving a copy of the new icon or if you would like the clipart in black and white, please let me know and I can email you the picture.

A new page has been added to the website for parents.  Please share the website address with all your parents so they can receive helpful information on ways they can help the troop and be more involved.  The parents will also receive an introduction letter from the Service Unit with their registration packet to help get the website address out.  Leaders, check out the parent page too.  Take the Lead's latest installment of tips for working with parents has been included.  The tips will change monthly.

Did you know that you can add your family partnership contributions to your registration form?  Our SU's family partnership goal is only $3 per girl.  Please encourage your families to add the $3 to their registration form to help meet our goal!
